Design Approach
My approach to design is quite straight-forward and no-nonsense. Design can often be very involved and creative, but realistically it is no more mysterious than any other profession, and the basis of all successful design is mostly just hard work. "Everything is designed, and design should be for everyone." I think design is all about making decisions. You get a feel for what works and what doesn't work. As your experience grows, the journey between the initial brief and the final solution becomes shorter and shorter. I subscribe to the KISS principle of Keep It Simple Stupid, which I apply to most areas of my design work. Unnecessary complications dilute and blur the message/feel you are trying to communicate, which in turn reduces how effective the design will be... Think about the simplicity of Nike's brand design and Apple's iPod and you will see what I mean.

Design isn't art, it has a function, which is communication. If it just looks pretty but doesn't communicate what you need it to, you are not going to get much of a return on your investment.
