Designing a Web Site

flow-icon-red.gifTo design an effective website in County Mayo you need to; have a clear idea of what you want to achieve with the site, know your business and your target audience, and have a good understanding of the web and how it is used by your market.

There are lots of different types of website, so usually the first thing I ask clients when they approach me for a website is 'what do you want it to do?'.

By this I mean, what is the objective of the website? Is it:-

  • So that you can be found in search engines?
  • To raise the 'internet profile' of your business in County Mayo?
  • To match your local competition in County Mayo?
  • To make a start-up or small business look more credible?
  • To generate new enquiries for your products or services?
  • To promote your business with a web marketing campaign?
  • To develop an e-business service on the web?
  • To sell physical goods or software on the web?

You need to know your own business and have a clear strategy on how to achieve these objectives and reach your target audience. For example:-

  • What are your unique selling points?
  • How can you inspire customer confidence?
  • What information can you provide?
  • What are you offering?
  • Who are you aiming at?
  • What are your competitors doing?
  • How do you want to present your business?
  • What sort of budget is realistic for you?
"Think global to act local."

You need to have a good idea how the web works, how your customers use it, and also if the expectations of your investment are realistic.

If you consider yourself to be a technophobe - now is the time to get un-phobic and get stuck in. With websites you can't just write a cheque and walk away, you need to invest some graft as well.

If you don't feel you are able to do this, you may be better suited to a custom web page instead, which is a lot smaller task but can still provide some impressive results.

You really need to produce the best, keyword rich and most informative content that you can - If you don't your competitors will. The quality of this work will directly impact on the success of your website in County Mayo.

You can bet good money that your competitors are doing their absolute best to create a better site than you, and on the web you are not just competing on a local scale, but a global scale also.

"Failing to prepare is
preparing to fail..."

To prepare a successful website in County Mayo the steps are as follows:-

  1. Decide what you want to achieve with your site
  2. Analyse your business and research your market
  3. Research your competitors and form a strategy
  4. Develop a clear brief for the website
  5. Write and assemble high quality content to go in the site
  6. Decide if you need to able to update the website yourself

When you approach Infiniti Mixed Media, I will then be able to:-

  1. Discuss the brief
  2. Analyse the content supplied
  3. Estimate the cost of the job and provide a Design Order

Once the Design Order is agreed I will be authorised to go ahead and:-

  1. Design the logo (if required)
  2. Develop a site plan
  3. Design the visual
  4. Develop the main template
  5. Wireframe the web site
  6. Wireframe any extended functionality
  7. Style and develop the main content
  8. Style and develop any extended functionality
  9. Test and bugfix across the main browsers
  10. Optimise and adjust for search engines

The final stages of the process are for you to proof-read, check and test the site as required, making any amendments as necessary. Then the site is launched by being made publicly available, and ultimately submitted to search engines for inclusion.
